Course description
In this one-day session, surgeons learn the various laparoscopic approaches to bariatric surgery, when such procedures are justified, and which kinds of patients are appropriate candidates for them. Participants observe live lap-band, gastric bypass and duodenal switch operations being carried out. The course also focuses on what to do in the case of previous (unsuccessful) operations.
Course Objectives
• Review common guidelines for bariatric surgery
• Demonstrate procedures (including lap-band, gastric bypass and duodenal switch)
• Show techniques and strategies to reduce operative time and complications
• Teach best practices and avoidance of pitfalls in the various procedures
• Provide escape routes for per-operative mishaps
