Hepatic Metastasis

Hepatectomy

Introduction
When treating hepatic metastases, laparoscopy allows multiple and repeated surgical interventions without the usual problems of adhesions. This type of treatment, as well as radiotherapy, probably increase the chances of survival of the patient. For example, a patient who has had several unresectable metastases in the left and right lobes of the liver – could be treated in the following manner: excision of the metastases of the left part of the liver via a left hepatectomy and thermo ablation (using radiotherapy under laparoscopic control) of the metastases of the right part of the liver, followed by laparoscopic excision several months later of any recurring metastases that have become resectable as a result of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The laparoscopic access change the treatment of hepatic metastasis.
