Morbid Obesity
Obesity is a dangerous condition- one of the primary health problems in industrialized countries. Obesity must be treated by a healthy life style, by an appropriate diet. In many cases however, when excessive weight has reached and passed a certain level, these measures are not sufficient and the dangerous condition cannot be solved permanently. The level of obesity can be calculated by the Body Mass Index (BMI): weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters). When BMI is equal to or higher than 40 kg/m`,obesity is called morbid (i.e. generating serious health problems). In the case of morbid obesity, surgical treatment is currently the only treatment considered effective over the long term. As with any other disease, the type of surgery will depend on the cause. People who just eat too much must obtain a different treatment from people who eat relatively little and still gain weight.
